Splendid in the Desert...

It's really a shame that Phoenix only shows up once
on the schedule. Following the report from last week, we'd exchange all
of the quad-oval tracks for runs at the desert mile.
The AMSOIL, Eastern Outerwear Pontiac was solid
right off the truck as the setup was comfortable and racy. The ECI Express
was fast all night and posted top five speeds in practice, qualifying, happy
hour, and eventually the race. Starting fifth, Inglin stayed with the top
runners in the three long green flag segments of the race. Only two cautions
marred the event, the first of which came on lap 40 and the second on lap
77 of the 125 lap race. What ensued the rest of the time were long 40+ lap
green flag segments which had there share of dicing and action.
It should be noted that two drivers who were in
the top five were booted from the game but that's not to take away from
the great run put in by the AMSOIL team.

Kevin
Inglin - "We always have fun when we come out here. It was an unusual
event as we ran under cloud cover for the weekend and it changed the feel
of the car. Typically the track is slippery and today it had some good grip
and provided a real racy feel.
We
had a great run there at the end. We used the equipment up a bit trying
to get to second. Once we got there, we were in pretty good shape but I
saw Francois coming like a freight train. He looked to have a bit more tires
than me threre at the end. I held him back for quite a few laps but my tires
were shot and I figured he'd get me in the end. Once he showed a nose under
me, I let him go. It was the smart thing to do as there was no reason to
wreck both of our nights.
We
just got word that Pontiac is leaving the sport. Its a shame, that's for
sure. Our Pontiac was pretty racy tonight and our teammates, Dean Moll and
Dan Bailey also posted top five finishes (Dean won his umptiempth race).
GM
says they're going to switch us over to Chevies next year and we don't see
much of a change coming our way."
It
sure is nice to run up front all night. We had to bang out the fenders there
a couple of times as I was giving it all I had. I scraped the wall quite
a few times. This places is such a momentum track and you run right on the
ragged edge.
We
kept the car in one piece and came home with a solid top five. If only we
had some consistency this year, who knows what would have happened. Anyway,
we're off to the 'Rock' next week and that should be fun. We finished fourth
there in the spring while running with the Thunder boys and it should would
be nice to duplicate or better that effort with the lightning group".
