If there were only one race track design allowed in NASSCAR, well Michigan would be one to consider. All the components that go into a great race exist on this speedway and fans can surely get their money's worth each and every race.
Like many races this year, the AMSOIL mount started mid pack and held ground in the early going. Starting ninth and moving up to seventh in the early going, Kevin held with the leaders until the first caution at lap 15. Staying out for bonus points, Kevin found himself 16th and up to the challenge of clawing his way back to the front. By lap the AMSOIL Chevy was solidly in third and crusing to the finish. A pitstop on lap 57 saw the AMSOIL Chevy restart in 11th but Kevin got up on the wheel and was in a respectible sixth by lap seventy six. Running on older tires and charging to the finish, a split second decision on an 8 lap shootout to the finish resulted in a loss of two positions with one and Kevin rode side by side to the finish missing seventh by a foot at the line.
Kevin Inglin, the pilot of the AMSOIL Chevy had this to say after the run:
I think this team can hold it's head up high. We kept things clean all race long and would have finished top five if it weren't for that late race slip. I'm not upset about it, it was one of those deals where I zigged instead of zagged and it cost me. Stan Nickle and I were running nose to tail and I had such a good run I wanted to let the car roll on and the only place to go was high on the front stretch. Unfortunately as I pulled high, it bottlenecked ahead of me and I had to breathe the throttle. Stan saw what was developing and dashed low. He got the spots and I slipped back. I happens that way sometimes. This is the first race in a while that someone hasn't bashed us into oblivion and I had hoped for a top five but beggers can't be choosers. We're just happy to have been competitive for a change at the finish and head off to Infineon with a solid run behind us.
