To us Chicago is the heartland. The racing is fast and furious. Many involved in the sport complain about the new cookie cutter tracks but Chicago, well its just a fun place to race. Two grooves, tight action and hungry competitors make for a thrilling event.
The AMSOIL Chevy was on the mark. Starting in ninth, the driver held his ground and was running in the bottom half of the top ten for much of the night. A bobble off turn four momentarily slowed the progress and fellow competitor Jeff Mahan drew alongside on the front stretch. Apparently the spotter cleared Jeff but he wasn't quite there and he clipped the left front corner of the car while trying to slide up for a better entry into turn one. The ECI express ricocheted off the front stretch wall just past the start finish line and received some heavy right side damage.
The rest of the race was an exercise in getting to the finish. Several crashes helped Kevin stay in the top ten but unfortunate contact with Miles Hammrick cased another incident and this time the AMSOIL mount sustained heavy damage with only a few laps to go. It was a matter of real estate; both drivers chose different lines through turn four and contact was the result. If anything, it looks as if Kevin didn't give Miles enough room.In the end it was an eleventh place finish on the lead lap.
Kevin Inglin, the pilot of the AMSOIL Chevy had this to say after the run:
"Well we got to race tonight and didn't get creamed too bad. Jeff clipped us mid way and messed us up. It looked like he was on the apron and his spotter didn't do a good job in clearing him. I slipped in turn four which let him get a run on me but still there shouldn't have been contact. It was relatively minor considering our luck this year so whose to complain"
