"I'm going back to Cally, Cally, Cally, I'm going back to Cally" - L.L. COOL J.

The NASS Lightning contingent headed back west for the first time ever on the Labor Day week in 2004 Tradition would say that Darlington is where the haulers would be pointed but no more. California is now the Labor Day stop on the NASS tour. The anticipation was high for the AMSOIL team as vindication was in the air after a poor spring showing. Kevin was confident with his Chevy in race trim and was eager to roll through the field and set the world on fire. As has been the case however, the winds were not favorable and the burning desire was doused with regret as contact from behind was once again the culprit for a short night. Water was flowing from the radiator and from the drivers eyes as a promising feeling was snuffed like a match between two wet fingers.

Driver Kevin Inglin had this to say

"Once again we were snake bitten in the California sun. In one respect, I'm in here enjoying a cold beverage while the rest of the group is out there baking in the California sun. What was it, `102 degrees or something like that when we started. Just insanely hot out there.

I'm plain disgusted with this season. We're in the hunt for the championship but this worries me some. Sad thing is, I really felt great about our chances. We were posting some of the best times on long runs in practice and the car didn't drop off one bit. It's a steaming hunk of junk right now. There's not a straight piece left on it. I let off on the backstretch to give room for my teammate and when I ducked in behind him, Jeff Maddox had a run from behind. I don't know what happened from there but I can tell you one thing, wow, we hit a ton. I'll be bruised up tomorrow, that's for sure.

Man... let's just get through Richmond unscathed... Until next week."
