Race Report - July 19th, 2005 - Race 19 of 36Loudon New Hampshire gets a bad rap from many on the NASSCAR circuit. Drivers don't like the flat turns and drag strip straightaways. The driver of the AMSOIL chevy however loves Loudon and the two trips are always circled on the calendar. Having missed last week's Chicago race due to a family vacation, Kevin was eager to take to the track, get some laps in and work for a good finish.
Kevin started seventh in the twenty-two car pack and charged to fifth place in the early stages. Francois Bergeron and Michel Palardy were racing hard for second position when contact resulted in caution number one. All of the front runners including the ECI Express came to pit road for the first time on lap ten. Kevin slid perfectly into his pitstall but just before the jackman could get the car jacked up the front fender was clipped by Mile Hammrick while he was swinging into his pitbox. The car slid forward from the contact and the cost of righting the situation was a fourteenth place restart position.
Undaunted, Kevin held bay and methodically worked his way to the front of the pack the best he could. A second caution waived on lap thirty-eight and the crew left Kevin out to get the four bonus points. This would dig a deeper hole but it was still early and there was hope that Kevin could put on a charge and get to the top five later in the run. Kevin restarted in fourteenth and through attrition and steady progress made his way back into the top five on lap eighty.
The run at the front would unfortunately come to an end on lap one-hundred as a hard charging Michel Palardy made contact with the rear quarter panel off of the fourth turn and the resultant contact saw the thirty-nine spin down the front stretch and eventually roll across the line backwards.
Pitting to fix the damage and prepare for the final run, Kevin exited the pits in thirteenth, got up on the wheel and passed three cars in the closing laps to finish tenth on the night.
