Race Report - August 30th, 2005 - Race 24 of 36Intensity personoified, that's what Bristol is. Fast and unforgiving, Bristol is a place built for one purpose - pure adrenaline racing. The ECI Express driver Kevin Inglin is up to the challenge of Bristol and typically rises to the occasion - such was the case on Tuesday night.
Kevin started off in ninth and made his way up to fourth in the first third of the race. Fortunes would turn however as fellow competitor Norm Adkins was motivated to get to the front early and inserted his nose under the rear quarter panel of the AMSOIL Chevy going down the backstretch on lap fifty-three. The outcome can be guessed as the resultant contact forced the AMSOIL Chevy into a spin and hard into the outside banner. Kevin was not pleased with the contact and remained quiet on the radio after the incident.
Having lost all track position as a result of the contact, Kevin hung out on the track about twenty laps later when a caution waived. The hope was that another short run would result in everyone pitting and no harm, no foul, for track position. As typical with strategy this year, the rest of the race went green. With worn tires Kevin was freight trained by those who ducked in for tires and soon found himself in tenth and one lap down. The race had gone from bad to worse.
Leader David Gray set a torrid pace in the last stage of the race and after picking up fresh tires Kevin was one of the most consistent competitors on the lap charts. He kept pace with the leader for a good twenty laps but the caution never fell so the opportunity to get back on the lead lap never materialized. All was not lost however as Kevin made it all the way back to sixth and was the first car one lap down when the final flag waived.
