Race Report - September 27th, 2005 - Race 28 of 36The Monster Mile is what they call the Dover Speedway in Dover Delaware. It's one mile of pure concrete terror with more banking in the straights then some tracks have in the turns. It's pit road is notoriously trecherous and narrow. Respect is what is required if you wish to master Dover. With this being the case, anyone who partook in the Dover fall race for the NASS Lightning division knows that they witnessed something special - a race without caution.
Scott Olson took the pole but it was Michel Palardy who led the majority of the race. Kevin Inglin, pilot of the ECI AMSOIL Eastern Outerwear Chevy started in seventh, jumped up to sixth and then hovered between fourth and eighth depending on the segment of the race. One-Hundred and Sixty laps was the distance and the strategy was to carve each session into forty lap segments. The crew performed flawlessly and Kevin kept the car in fine shape over each run.
There was a spirited battle with Miles Hammrick in the middle of the race but in the end Miles proved why he's the master at tire conservation. Still, Kevin ran hard, hustled when it mattered and pulled home a respectful sixth place finish.
Kevin Inglin, the pilot of the AMSOIL Chevy had this to say after the run:
"We didn't set the world on fire but it was a solid showing. I seemed to be burning up tires faster then those ahead of me for some reason. I think it was because I was letting the banking slow me up and scrubbing the tires too much. I'll have to do some testing for next time to see if I can cut back some on the tire wear. Overall it was a decent run. I really would have liked to have landed in the top five but in a run that was all green, it's an accomplishment to get through without any mistakes to drop you in the standings. We gave it all we had and got what we earned. A green flag race will do that for you.
